What our customer's say...

Disover the benefits of solar for businesses and organisations

What are the advantages of solar panels for my business?

Solar panels offer a range of compelling benefits for businesses, from cost savings and government incentives to carbon emission reductions and enhanced CSR. With a growing focus on sustainability and the continued support of government policies, businesses in the UK have a significant opportunity to embrace solar power and contribute to a cleaner and more resilient energy future. These are just a few of the ways solar panels could provide to be beneficial for your business;

Business savings with solar panels

Producing your own electricity from the sun means less reliance on the National Grid to power your business, and therefore a slash in your energy costs. Business solar panels also help to reduce your vulnerability to energy price spikes, providing you with the opportunity to forecast and manage your energy costs more effectively.

Cut your business’s carbon footprint

Solar panels enable you to power your business in a way that is less damaging to the environment by reducing your daily carbon consumption. According to the UK’s National Grid, solar power generation in the UK can save around 1.7 million tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Enhance corporate social responsibility

Businesses are increasingly expected to proactively operate in an environmental-friendly manner. Solar-equipped businesses demonstrate their mindfulness of corporate social and environmental responsibility, bolstering reputation through sustainable initiatives.

Futureproof your business

With laws and policies surrounding businesses’ environmental responsibilities ever-changing, and vast numbers of businesses focusing on how to reach NET-ZERO goals by 2025, solar panel installation enables your business to be one step ahead of the curve in proactively reducing your business’s environmental impact to reach long terms sustainability goals.

Opportunties to leverage financial incentives

An investment in solar installation may allow your business to take advantage of tax incentives and rebates, as well as government incentives that reward businesses for generating renewable energy, optimising the cost savings associated with solar PV for businesses.

Improve energy security

Solar panels can help you to negate away from issues associated with National Grid power supply, such as outages, allowing you to be one step closer to energy independence and an uninterrupted power supply.

Increase your property value

Commercial properties equipped with solar panels can see an increase in value. Prospective buyers or tenants may view solar installations as a valuable and forward-thinking asset, potentially leading to higher property valuations.

Commercial solar power installation help and advice

How much energy do commercial solar panels generate?

How much energy do commercial solar panels generate?

We understand that for many businesses deciding whether to invest in solar, an estimated calculation of the expected energy generation is important.

Solar panel efficiency refers to the amount of solar radiation that a panel is about to convert into electricity.

The amount of energy produced by solar PV will largely depend on the number, size, condition, position and operational efficiency of your panels. The size and efficiency of panels affect the panel rating. Higher panel ratings equate to more energy produced.

On average, a solar panel will generate around 250-450 watts per hour, however, this largely depends on the factors outlined above. But the good news is that, thanks to developments in PV technology, solar panels can now be expected to convert between 15% and 25% energy from the sun, which is a huge advancement on older style panels which typically only run at an efficiency of 6%. As an experienced installer, we take care to source quality panels and install in a way that optimises energy output so you can get the best out of new technologies and system design.

It should be noted that as panels age over a 25-year lifespan, they lose around 0.5% efficiency each year. However, maintenance, care and upgrades can help to keep this minuscule efficacy loss amount low.

How many solar panels would my business need?

The number of solar panels needed to power your businesses will depend entirely on your business’s energy usage, combined with the size, position and efficiency of panels and the local sunlight conditions.

Whether you’re an SME with a singular office premises or a a larger business with a vast number of large commercial properties, systems can be designed to meet the needs of the business and available roof sizes. For example, a 15kW solar PV system would typically meet the needs of a small business, consuming between 40-60kWh per day, whilst a large-scale facility, such as a manufacturing plant, supermarket or event venue with a larger roof space and higher energy usage needs would require an 80-100kW system.

We’ll calculate the number of solar panels needed for your business whilst analysing the available roof space and orientation. We’ll assess how much energy you are already using, against what you can generate with the roof space, orientation and budget available.

Are solar panels a good business investment?

It goes without saying, that solar does require some significant investment, and therefore it’s more than reasonable that businesses should be asking whether or not solar is worth the investment. The good news is, that installation is more affordable than ever, flexible and fast and the payback period has proven to be rapid.

Every business’s return on investment is different, however typically, most businesses break even on solar investment within 4-5 years after installing. A small 20kW system has the potential to save a business over £3000 annually on electricity bills.

In addition to cost savings from grid usage and dependancy, businesses with industrial solar systems can also take advantage of selling excess energy to utility companies by engaging with agreements such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).

While many businesses largely opt for commercial solar PV for financial incentives, solar is undoubtedly deemed a smart business investment for businesses wishing to demonstrate a commitment to reducing the corporate impact on the environment.

Does commercial solar energy offer any financial benefits?

Yes, absolutely. Solar PV is proven to reduce businesses’ utility costs, whilst providing resilience against spiking energy tariffs. Secondary to this, as a business, you can also explore your options in relation to generating additional income from your solar system. There are a number of schemes, inducing the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme, which enables you to sell surplus electricity back to the grid. Depending on your provider, on average you could earn anywhere between 5-15p per kWh.

Are there grants available for commercial solar panels?

Depending on your business size and industry, there are a few different options you could explore if you’re looking for commercial solar funding support.

The Energy Transformation Fund and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) are two government-funded schemes your business may be eligible for. It’s also well worth checking with your local authority to find out if they offer any schemes to support local businesses to invest in renewable energy, such as solar.

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme is also a government-funded initiative whereby your business could be paid for exporting excess energy generated from solar back to the grid.

For those operating in the farming and agricultural sector, the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) 2024 offers access to grants of up to £50,000, based on productivity benefits and environmental benefits.

Whilst self-funding is typically the most popular option for installing commercial solar power, Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) have become increasingly favoured. PPA can be an effective way of securing a loan for installation by providing lenders with the required security and confidence that your solar will offer a return on their capital investment on competition. If your energy usage and roof space meet the required criteria, you could benefit from free solar installation financed by a PPA provider. Essentially, the solar equipment is owned by the PPA provider, who sells the energy to you at an agreed, typically lower than the National Grid rate.

For public sector bodies, the Salix Funding is a grant that offers an interest-free loan to public sector bodies looking to invest in energy-efficient technologies such as solar.

Solar is deemed a reliable source of renewable energy. This is because it empowers your business to gain more reliance and break free from grid outages, whilst giving you the stability to untangle yourself from depending on the grid and paying tariffs that may fluctuate.

Here at Powerforce Renewables, we take care to understand your business’s energy consumption needs to design a system that proves useful and reliable for your business.

How much could commercial solar panel installation save?

One of the fundamental reasons for commercial solar’s spike in popularity in recent years is because businesses are seeing a return on their investment. Panels are getting cheaper, and better, meaning there’s more potential to save sooner and save more. The size, quality, number and orientation of panels, combined with sunlight hours have a direct impact on how much money you can save on your energy bills annually.

To assist your business’s solar decision-making, here at Powerforce Renewables, we’ll provide a quote based on your available roof space and energy needs to demonstrate your estimated cost savings.
